Is there a way to remedy corrosion that is coming through the plating on lantern tanks. The tanks are brass and has various areas where green corrosion has started to appear. I have thought of getting them re-chromed, but I am a bit apprehensive and don't want to risk in them getting damaged further especially the Aida 1250.

I use car wax on all my lamps to try and preserve the plating...

Initially to clean plated tanks etc I use the baking foil and water trick. Search for restoring Chrome on YouTube and you'll find that one.

I then dry them off completely and finish off with the car wax.

I cure that problem by soaking the tanks in vinegar, which also helps to clean out the insides and I then rinse the tanks in water.

If the tanks are plated then I let them soak for ten minutes and then I rinse and check them and I repeat the process if it's required, but vinegar is tough on plating so care has to be taken, Jeff.
