Hi all, just wondering if anyone has replaced the control cock washer On a Handi Keropet, and what they replaced it with? Looks like it was some sort of fibrous washer, which has disintegrated over time.

    Cheers
    Andy.

I suspect that’s asbestos packing. You can replace it with graphite or pink plumbers tape.

PTFE tape (?) Should work. Teflon tape, it's a yellow color here in the US. It will stand up to petroleum products. The white colored tape would probably work but it's for mostly water pipes. Wrap a few turns around the spindle and it should do the trick.
Would a lead packing from a Petromax lantern work?:-k

I’ve always used graphite, however Teflon tape should work also, I must try Teflon next time.

I checked an old unfettled Keropet I’ve got in the shed, and it has graphite packing.

    Cheers

And for reference here is an original packing in good condition (similar to yours).
Note, they were a series of fibre washers.

Thanks everyone, looks like I’m off to buy some plumbers tape, and get some graphite packing next time I order from the fettlebox.
