I am waiting for Fred to reply me on the mica chimney. i had an order for a 327. But for now, i do still have the tired original mica chimney on my lamp. The mica has chips, cracks and pieces wanting to fall off. While watching some guys repairing some PCBs, i noticed they used a yellowish tape. Kapton tape. Used for electronics for the most part. It stands heat of around 300 degrees C.. A soldering iron resting on the tape doesn't do anything to it, and is still as sticky after that. SO...... It is yellow alright, very yellow. But i think it doesn't really matter when its lit up. No physical changes too. Perhaps some of you will end up making art from it and paste it on glass?
Kapton's fine. Its used for some higher temperature rated electric motors as well. Insulation sheets inside the windings. As long as it holds and doesn't peel off, I think it wouldn't matter much.
