I recently purchased a Vapalux dated 1943 with some unusual features.

8146BCF5-65FA-4852-B5A5-657F4BE30D85.jpeg The crows feet are quite distinctly stamped on the bottom edge of the hood, and the ‘yellow’ warning label is definitely in gold. I hadn’t seen either feature before, has anyone else seen them?

Any chance to see a photo of the gold label?
The year and crows foot are stamped correctly,
compared to the two Vapalux 300 I have.

This is the remains of an original Vapalux 300 transfer, this one is clearly gold in colour. Very much like the transfers applied to the Tilley PL53.

Thanks Gary, the label on mine is in a similar poor state, Matthias, is the picture from Gary sufficient or do you still want to see mine? Gary, have you seen a crows foot applied like the one on my lamp?

Thanks Robbo, that explains it all clearly, I’ve got Ian’s book and have a small collection of lamps but hadn’t seen a crows foot applied like that before…..

PS: I put a full set of seals on the lamp before lighting and the jet cleaner took a bit of force to wind it out of the tank, lurking in there was the original red plastic seal! So it hadn’t been out for a while…..

Gary, does your lantern have a pressure tit on the tank? My understanding is there wasn’t any pressure tit on the 1943 model.;)

Yes, I have another one marked 1943 and that has the pressure pip on also.
