Hi guys. I got this wee gem tonight but know nothing about it. Am I correct in thinking its an AL 21 ? Apparently this one served during the war helping light up temporary runways for aircraft. The seals are the same as my x246 uses but is the mantle the same ? If not what do I need to get ? As you can see it needs a glass so what type of glass can I use or where can I find a glass ? Is this s common lamp or a bit of an odball ? Any help welcomed as usual team. Many thanks again
Nice find i think the control tap is just a pricker control on these, no on/off, still has the gland washer tho.. i can see a pressure release as well i seem to remember Darryl Durdin used a Fresnel lens for one of these? or maybe another member might have one regards pb **edit** yes the mantle is different but a Tilley can be used if you use a thin bit of wire to secure it to the burner? a freezer bag wire ?
Does this help? Tilley AL21 (Type1) The mantle should be a Tilley 190 but the Tilley 164 works ok if the lamp is operating well. https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/tilley-190-al21.362/ As to the glass… Send an email to the Base Camp (UK); or find a glass works that will cut a heatproof glass for you; or look on the Bay of Evil for the right sized fresnel glass like @Darryl Durdin found. Borosilicate Fresnel lense for My Tilley AL21 Cheers Tony
