This Coleman 214A700 was blown of its hanging hook by a huge gust of wind while I was away from home. It had been fitted with a Primus globe (chimney) that did not break in the fall, but the mantle shattered of course. So, I thought I would take the opportunity to give it a general service as it is one lantern that gets a fair bit of use. After a general clean up, I decided to clean the generator - but when I put it back together the fuel control mechanism felt very odd and wasn't working properly. I pulled the generator off to discover this: Fortunately I happened to have a spare fuel system for a 214. Here are the components of the broken fuel system. New parts fitted, and away she goes! (photos taken in daylight): Cheers Tony
I'm amazed that the globe survived, Tony! The eccentric block on the 214 is cast aluminium alloy. I think when the generator cokes up the pricker needle gets stuck inside the aluminium coil in the gennie and turning the valve puts a lot of strain on the eye of the eccentric. Lucky you had a spare
You will need to bend those hooks much more to stop it next time! Double J hooks are not S hooks. Commiserations & damn!
@JonD S-hooks it will be! The gust of wind must have been extraordinarily strong as I’ve had lamps hanging on those hooks for years, and it gets very windy down here in the roaring 40s. Cheers Tony
They used to "mouse" a hook on a crane as a way to prevent this. Basically it involves tying something over the opening. Probably would not work well hear unless you could fuel them up on the hook.
You could always use a small carabiner. 2 x Carabiner Snap Hook with Hooks Assorted Sizes: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors https://www.amazon.co.uk/Outmate-Al...pID=51F3krb4kiL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch Henry.
Carabiners are very good and surprisingly cheap if you find the aluminium ones. Available in quite small sizes too, 25-30mm long. Anodised for red/green/blue if you like that sort of thing. They are marked not for climbing use etc - which is only sensible but for hanging a lamp they should be just fine.
