Yes, that's him, a.k.a. Joseph Wright of Derby. He was the subject of one of the two art history programmes on TV here - Fake or Fortune (Fiona Bruce and Philip Mold) or the other one with Emma Dabiri (might have been the other female presenter, Jacky Klein) and Bendor Grosvenor. I know bu&&er-all about art but Joseph Wright's treatment of light and shade is spectacular. Without wishing to be controversial in any way, might I venture to suggest there are actually two works of art shown above... Yeah, I know what you mean. I decided if I couldn't get my hair cut there was little point in trimming my beard. I'm gonna give Santa Claus a good run for his money this Christmas, that's for sure - and I won't even need to stuff a cushion down the front of my Santa suit either!
Love this, but have to admit to being a bit more low-brow. Can you give us the 'Dogs playing poker' by lamplight please.
Looking at trhe original....shock horror, has he just carried out an experiment into gassing that poor bird? and even worse, forcing those children to watch, how distressful. Martin
Do you really think this is appropriate in the open section of this forum? I think it trivialises CPL. Tony
