    Hello Scott !

The Petromax lanterns and their clones, as we see here are easy to fettle and spare parts can be found relatively easy, parts are often interchangeable between the lanterns of this type.
The Petromax lantern in your photos was made in 1955 ( give or take a year )
    Regards Fred,

For the same money I would much rather have an original Petromax than a clone. I think $75 is way too much for for the 829 in that condition, unless you are talking Zimbabwe dollars of course...

hi phil thanks for the reply, haha no wish it was zimbabwe doller but its U.S, these are in vietnam so there seems to be alot of chinese ones, but you would go for a pertromax if theres one in decent condition.

hi tive thankyou for the reply, how do you find out what year they are, ive tried to research even the eveready and day-lite but i cant find any info at all really, is there any good sites to research dates and compare prices rather than look on ebay.

I agree with Phil, for the same money you can find Petromax, Geniol, Optimus or Hipolito.

Hi Scott ! i know the approximate year on the lantern because i have one with the same quick lighter, That quick lighter (Rapid) was patented 1954.
And another design introduced in the late fifties or early sixties.

Obviously I don't know what the market value is for lanterns in Vietnam but I suspect you are being ripped-off. Looking at the Petromax, the quality doesn't seem very good at all and to charge the same for an Anchor or another Chinese copy is just crazy as the build quality is just NOT the same! If your haggling skills are OK, offer them $20 and if they balk at that, walk away. You'll most likely end up spending money on bits and pieces to get it back to a reasonable condition so don't give over the odds!

    Welcome !

I am not suprised that there are shops that sell lanterns. Even second hand ones.
There are even auction sites that do this.

On the Petromax that is made in Germany you should find a 4 digit number on the bottom. The last digit will be the year.

That is a hornets nest of a question to ask on an international collectors forum. Suffice it to say that Petromax would be among my top 5 brands for practical use, not just for collectability.
