A thread elsewhere on these forums got me thinking, "when was hollow wire lighting last used as the normal lighting of a home or a business" ? I refer here to regular daily use, not the odd "light up" by a collector or museum. Hollow wire lighting was effectively killed off by piped gas supplies or electric lighting. Portable pressure lamps are still made and have many uses, by no means obsolete I cant imagine anyone installing hollow wire lighting these days, nor even continuing to regularly use an existing installation. A better and safer light would probably be obtained by burning the fuel in an engine that powered electric lights. So when was hollow wire lighting last regularly used ? IIRC there are still a few lighthouses that use very large pressure lamps, but these use but a single large burner located close to the pressurised oil tank and are not IMO hollow wire installations.
Well I can imagine that amish people can still use it. At least they use oil lamps so why not hollow wire systems ?
