I just picked up a large haul of about 290 lanterns,I’m a coleman collector so unsure with a lot of the british ones,is this an e41 with a 305 vent?if so does anybody have the correct vent or know where I can find one?
Hi Rob, that's A LOT of Bialaddins Vapalux!! My favorite 2 designs from them are the E41 and 300X. It is not easy to find E41 burner and hoods online other than the Vapalux Korea and the evil bay - also will likely to originate from South Korea. These styles needs to have a hood with a top cowl on them to look correct somehow. Perhaps ou can go to Vapalux site and old manuals to know more about their parts.
Thanks I’ll take a look, there were 48 british lamps in the haul and this one stood out but didn’t look quite right
E41 maybe? Model 300X and E41 used the same tank so you cannot know which it was to start with. Model 300x is much more common so it is more likely to be a 300. The globe cage and burner are most likely to be original to the lantern and some previous owner has fitted a later Bialaddin pre heat fitting and hood. Vapalux and Bialaddin lamps have compatible parts and down the years there have been many which have been fettled and ended up with 1960s parts fitted to 1940s lanterns. ::Neil::
Ah no. The flat top tank square shape tanks are Vapalux and the rounder shoulder ones are Bialaddin. Same manufacturer but a different brand with the same model number. The softer shoulder tanks date from arond 1946/7 when Aladdin industries began flogging ther lamps as Bialaaddin. All the parts will fit both tanks so you will get mixtures. ::Neil::
Neil - doesn't the E-41 models all have that rim indentation running around the top of the tank where the collar sets? I don't think the 300 has that, does it?
That is a ridiculous number of lamps! Your photos raise so many questions. Who had them originally? Was it a shop or a storage warehouse? What are you going to do with them all? Why are there so many mantles loose and out of packets? How come there are so many boxes of globes?
I believe the lantern is a 300X. Only some E41s have that slight dish in the tank top. Some are the same tank as a 300X. You can't determine the model from the tank. ::Neil::
Somebody cleared a ministry of defence stock room and had this in there salvage yard for 20 years till I stumbled across them.
Hi Rob, Just wondering, did you have, as Colin did, a 'Holy Crap' moment when you stumbled across the lamps? Or did you mange to stay composed? Stevie
