Folks, Are these Chinese lamps copies of the Aladdin 1A? It appears to have a Preston loop and a flame spreader similar to my 1A. This one is advertised for AUD60 so also wondering what sacrifices made to produce at such a price other than the obvious plastic pump knob. Could parts from this be used to fettle a 1A or is that a bridge too far? Thanks
John They are Petromax clones. The best source of Aladdin 1A parts is usually another Aladdin. What parts are you looking for? Tony
Thanks Tony, was just curious. As for my 1A, have a new pricker needle coming from TW Sands. Hopefully I can fit that without too much issue and I’ll be good. I had posted on another thread about this resto but had got my Aladdin confused with my Bialaddin. The font on my 1A is pristine but the Bialaddin font has quite a few vertical stress cracks...will hunt around or post for help on that shortly. Ta
Bialaddin fonts with stress cracks never seem to repair very well and often when you fix one, five others will open up in their place until you have a ring of kero fountains each time to try to use it! Anyway, replacement Bialaddin founts aren't hard to come by either on their own or as part of an old lamp, giving you spares for the future! As a matter of interest, how much is the Egret?
Oh boy.... you guys are scaring the hell out of me with all this talk about Bialaddin lanterns with stress cracks! So far, I have not found one Bialaddin with stress cracks and I have quite a few. Most have not been fired up for a rather long time (years)! Now I'm kinda scared...
