I have a red X246B from December 1974 which has been used... The paint on the tank doesn't look like if it was ever very solid but as I am thinking of repainting it, I have decided to make it the correct colour, if possible - perhaps just with a slightly improved quality. But which brand and type of paint should I buy and which exact colour should I ask for? Any advice on how to do it, so that the paint will stay and look good for many years to come? About the black hood - what would be the best way to repaint that one, to make it look as original as possible? I should say that I am not an expert on paint and painting, so please feel free to state what to some people might be obvious
I am doing exactly the same thing at the moment with a red X246B tank. I have used Plastikote red enamel and will top it of with some clear lacquer. Might not be a perfect colour match but looks quite nice anyway.
Thanks, I will consider that. Did you also have the impression that the original paint job was of a poor quality?
Probably not great quality on the original finish but much what I would expect on a utility item. It will certainly be a lot better quality whem I'm finished with it
