I did some research before jumping in to buy this. I have collected WWII memorabilia since i was 13 so adding this to my collection was easy to justify I am very happy I bought this already but if anyone can offer some more about the glass and put a year to this lantern if possible? From quick research the lanterns were made 42-45? The glass survived decades of use, storage and shipment from France to me here in the USA, yet Coleman cant get a Globe from Kansas to Pennsylvania without it being broken.
Nice military addition. Straight vaporizer meant for "benzin'. Are you going to fire that up? Benzin is white gas(gasoline). Not particularly safe for that fuel.
It has the normal Kero generator... It does pump up and build pressure.. but right now, i'm leaving it alone...
Yeah, my mistaken view. Its a Preston loop alright. Kerosene's the right fuel for that. It could probably work right on.
...nice item! But not necessarily a WW-II item. Ehrich & Graetz did not produce lanterns after 1943. However, according to some research at various archives these 282x lanterns were also produced shortly after the war in the GDR at the successor company of Ehrich & Graetz in the same facilities, VEB Radiotechnische Werke Treptow (RFT) Berlin.
Very nice lantern and highly interesting topic. If the Petromax 2826 was manufactured in the war years, it will probably have a very weak date stamp on the bottom of the tank. Just like mine. 243 =February 1943 Regards Reinhard
Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I have noticed that these 282x lamps come with either a black enamelled top or a green enamelled top. Is there a date difference in this colour change or is it random?
I also have a 2821 with stamp 143 (January 1943?) and a 2827 with stamp 644(June 1944?) Was there still a production of 2827 in 1944? @WimVe To my knowledge, only the 2827 would be provided for these boxes. These boxes are extremely rare, but the lamps are not rare. From the 2827 there are 2 completely different versions. 2821 and 2826 are not military pressure lamps. @Nils Stephenson I'm not sure, but..................... Regards Reinhard
I have one of these boxes. It had only one lantern, an 2827B dated, "644". This date was stamped on the bottom in what looked like black ink. Had a load of parts, several replacement globes (Putzler) and a top shield. The vent top on my lantern is black.
Hey all, thanks for all the input, I am still VERY pleased with this item and even more interested in its history!
