On special agreements with the manufacturers F. R. Racek sold huge amounts of German lanterns and hanging lamps in foreign countries, most of them in India. To help establish his business he used own brand names like Racek ("Efar" is also one of these brands) and combined them with the well-established brand names, e. g. "Petromax" in this case.

    Hello Tom,

Franz Racek opened his business first in Bombay in the year 1925.
The first reference I do have in my archive concerning F. Racek and Ehrich & Graetz is from 1928. Maybe the relationship
started already a little bit earlier. The Petromax No. 826 appeared on the market in 1927. The relationship between Franz Racek
and Ehrich & graetz lasted until 1943 when F. Racek died on 14th March in the same year. Due to the second World War he received the
permission from the Graetz company to produced Petromax lanterns in India. This was in 1941. I don't know if he ever started
a production of Petromax lanters there.

    Kind regards

    Jörg
