Thanks guys. I'm going to use a small mica chimney when I run it, and leave the original glass someplace safe. Tony -- I will take luxmeter readings soon, but I would say it's putting out a good 200+ cp. It's not a 350 but it's no shrinking violet either. I rather like it b/c without frosted shades, I find most lanterns are too bright to have on the (outdoor) table for supper. By the way, my wife and I visited Taz four years ago -- what a place. Wow, Henry, you know that didn't even register with me until you mentioned it, but it's the first one like that I've seen as well. By the way, it was pumping out 5000 lux at the distance of one foot from mantle last evening. I wish there were more information about Phoebus ... even on this fine forum there just isn't a lot (that I can find). Ulf.
...and do four (4) measurements around the lantern. E, W, S, N or 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. This way you eliminate any directional differences.
