Hello guys Yesterday I was in my favorite shop, a wick, lantern, hardware, paint, ladders rope and many more shop. To my supprise I saw that they had a used Pmax 250cp for sale When I came home with the wick and lantern chimney thst I wanted I was also the proud owner of an Petromax 827. The lantern is in good condition, no dents, nickel seems to quite alright and the original globe is even in it. On the tank is the E in G. Only bad thing, the rapid lever is missing. I think it is a Löfel rapid Pmax. Can anyone tell? Can anyone tell something about the year of manufacture. No marking on the botom. Since I'm a stormlamp collector I'm not sure if this one will stay for ever. If it does, something else has to go. Since the children have fled it must be something else. groetnis Henk
Nice find Henky, Pelam shows a replacement rapid preheater; http://www.pelam.de/index.php?cPath=30_49_77 looks like that lantern will cleanup like new.
Hello Guys Thanks for the info. If a modern Pmax rapid lever will fit one of a Anchor will fit too I guess, worth a try since I got one laying around. 1951, I was hoping that it was a prewar lantern, doesn't realy make a difference any how, it's a nice find, especialy because of the shop I found it, that's the main reason for me to keep it. regards Henk
Can't be much pre war because the rapid heater valve was the screw in type with a maroon lozenge control knob up to 1939. These lever types start in 1939 so you might be just pre or during WW2 but more likely a year or so afterwards. ::Neil::
it´s a post-war PX 827 which can be seen from the hand wheel, which looks like the one-part hand wheel which was used after 1947. pre-war px had other hand wheels. the zinc die-cast preheater is missing, it was often broken. modern preheaters do fit as well, but are not authentic. sometimes, sollectors get aftermarket copies of the zinc preheater, but they are expensive and built in small series.
