My second Primus 1020. This one from 1939 and in good condition. The 1020 is very common in Sweden but still one of my favorite, reliable and easy to repair. This is a perfect example, just a proper clean up, a new picker for the nozzle and everything okay… except for one thing, the NRV that was leaking like hell. I tried some kerosene and oil without success and realize that I have to exchange it. Since I haven’t the proper tool I soaked it with 5-56 and start look for a tool. Today a couple of months later and still without the tool a took a chance and fire it up again, and… It works perfect! Learning; even a non working NRV may recover with some oil, kerosene, 5-56 and a lot of patient. BTW. The top reflector is an original Primus. The globe is a replacement globe but I have a brand new original Primus in unopened box that will be fitted next time I use this beauty.
What a disappointment I had an unopened box with and Primus replacement globe just waiting to serve on this lamp but yesterday when I open the box I found a non marked replacement globe inside. Now I have to look for a “PRIMUS” marked globe. Not so easy to find
There have been a lot of these Primus globes around in these boxes and they are all unmarked. With that label they must be from the 1950s and could be a lot that was ordered in for the military. There it didn't matter about the extra advertising.
Impressive knowledge. It’s pity that we and the military's don't have the same opinion about that BTW. I have another box as well. Not the same label and the corrugated board seem to be of higher quality. The globe from this box is marked and in use on my other 1020. Any opinion about the age of this globe?
Well the label is after 1954 and before 1963 (I think). The company changed it's name fro AB B.A. Hjorth & Co. to AB Bahco in 1954 and after Optimus bought the liquid fuelled part in 1963 (?) it was changed to Primus Trading Company. Interesting to see the glass from the second box. I have seen them before and assumed they were a bit earlier. I will have to revise my thinking.
