I do like the preheater of the Primus 1051, my question is did any other maker have this softflame preheater?
Some Australian Gloria lanterns and their stove have that kind of preheater, but the fuel is gasoline. Tony
This is a gasoline lantern, so I will have a look at the Gloria section. Thanks PS, it looks as if the link in the Gallery to Gloria does not work
Gloria is under America. Here is a Gloria with a preheater: Gloria Table Lamp (Australia; circa 1937) @Lamp Doctor has a Gloria lantern with a preheater like yours. I’ll dig out a photo of it. Cheers Tony @tretrop
Thank you. Some one has to look at the link from Australia in the ref section, it is boken Gloria Light Company
@tretrop Gloria started as a US company and therefore all Gloria lamps and lanterns are listed under America. Cheers Tony
@tretrop Here is the Australian made Gloria lantern of @Lamp Doctor that has a preheater like yours: Tony Edit: From this thread: Gloria Lantern (Australia; 1930s; PLC Model W)
We decided early on in order to avoid complications and possible duplication of lamp models in the galleries manufacturers would be listed in their country of origin. Gloria Aus started in 1910 as an agency importing US Gloria product which evolved into the Gloria Aus company but was "Owned" by the US company until about 1917-18 and apparently continued to import product although at some point, perhaps in the early 1920s, they began manufacture in Aus. Gloria US died perhaps as early as 1930 but Gloria Aus was still alive to about 1945 and possibly a little longer. Because a lot of the early product was common to both companies and is not marked with a country of origin it is not possible to compile a definitive list of Aus made Gloria lamps so the Gloria list in the PLC combines them and that is reflected in the Gloria gallery. ::Neil::
I’ve been after one of these Petrol lanterns for a while. Also like the Kerosene Primus 981 with its roaring jet preheater. Has anyone got a spare example to sell?
