Just sold on ebay Australia- "Old rare Vintage Quirks Victory Kerosene Brass Table Lamp Pressure Lantern" for AUS$917.57. The odd bid makes me suspect it is due to an overseas currency conversion. I am assuming it is one of those mystery "Goulburn Special- Quirks". Does anyone know the really rich lamp/lantern collector who made the purchase?
Out of mine too I did bid and for more than I thought it worth as the instructions being with the lamp it strongly supports an argument that Quirks are the origin of the "Goulburn Specials". The seller has kindly supplied me with a photo of the instruction sheet
...... I'll post the paperwork if it is post-worthy when it gets here. Some times you just gotta have it, eh.
Quirks becomes very interesting, then. They also traded Quirks stoves (big kitchen stoves with oven etc) that were made up from Primus components... Very interesting indeed... Tony
Out of my league and not a something I look to collect, but I did watch it with interest. The 'instructions' don't fill me with confidence, they seem too bright for the age and too clean when sat next to that lamp. HD
Looking at a large blow-up of the instructions, they look genuine to me: typed on a typewriter; somewhat torn on the folds and a few ?silverfish holes. The address is also correct for Quirks in Sydney, if I recall correctly. Cheers Tony
I don't think there was any doubt that these lamps were sold by Quirke's. This lamp and paper just confirms what we had already decided was right. Always nice to see corroborating evidence though and I would very much like to see a copy of that complete paper. ::Neil::
I also had a bid on it but not enough, obviously. Glad it went to a home where it will be appreciated and looked after. I look forward to seeing some good photos of it and the paperwork on here sometime.
About AUD900 can't be that bad considering the rareness of this lamp, can it? Much more common Primus lamps can go for three times that, so congratulations Anthony! I'm looking forward to see it being presented here.
To resurrect an old,old topic I was extremely annoyed with myself for slacking off on searching the bay of evil to find this in the completed Listings :- Item number:254377554768Vintage hand Held kerosene pressure lamp, missing top plate Who was the enchanted SOB ??
Almost a stealth advert I never saw it either. Them’s the breaks. Glad to see it go to a good home. Cheers Pete
