Regarding the quick starter for optimus 1550, can anyway help with removing it from the font - I turn the quick start level and it hits the font, and when I unscrew the burner out the font it does the same - cannot screw it out. Don't want to force anything so what am I doing wrong?

You need to unscrew the flame tube first. It unscrews anticlockwise. Just be careful since the metal of the tube is very thin. It might be tempting to put a small screwdriver in the slots at the bottom of the tube, but I would recommend that you don't do it like that. They will easily deform.

After removing the tube, you just simply lift the lever away by pulling it straight upwards and away from the base of the quickstarter. You might need to wiggle it as you are pulling.
(It lock to the quickstarters moving head with a sort of large splines, but is only held in place by the flametube once it has been screwed down.)

After that nothing should interfere with the tank when unscrewing the lighters base.

Here's an illustration of how the entire assembly looks, if it is of any help. (I actually think the lever 'J' rather should be positioned between the tube 'R' and the head 'P' to be more correct illustrated):
