Riley 164X mantles, asbestos free?

Hi All, are the 164X Tulley mantles asbestos free for the X246B?

I don't believe the Tilley mantles ever contained asbestos as they're made of silk or sometimes rayon. The only exception would be the early radiator mantles.

 

I thought I read somewhere that the mantle string contained asbestos?

 

It might have once, but unless the mantles are really old, they're made of silk thread, aren't they? ...or rayon if it's a rayon mantle.

Does anyone have more info on this?

 

The modern X164 mantles should not have asbestos tie strings.

Yes, I did wonder.. perhaps it was a reference to older mantles I read..
Lots of nasty dust to be careful of when disposing of old mantles as well
