Picked this up off our local auction site, the owner said he used it once in the early 1980's popped it in its box and promptly forgot about it! Came with its instructions (including warranty card) alcohol bottle, a pack of silk lites and a spare generator. It had considerable amount of soot inside the globe and vent showing lighting problems so I wonder if that was the reason behind the lack of use! The fount is dated September 1983
Very nice, indeed! A lot of kerosene pressure lanterns are usually found full of soot. I think a lot of that is due to people not knowing how to light them, especially here in the States. We are use to gasoline pressure lanterns and not able to have the time to wait for the preheating to take place. Personally, I prefer kerosene over gasoline. Kerosene is a little more "forgiving" than gasoline!
I think it was about 1983 when I first saw one of these in action. I was working on a Scout Camp and wandering around on evening patrol there were lots of Tilley lamps running and over in a far corner this super bright light which put the Tilleys i n the shade. When I walked over it was a Coleman 201 which they had bought a few weeks earlier from the Scout Shop in London. A few years later Scout Shops stopped selling Coleman and sold off their display/demo lamps and the warden of my site bought a job lot so I was able to buy a 201 and a 222 for cheap. For the size they are very bright lamps and pretty reliable. Nice find indeed. ::Neil::
