I recently found this poor Sunflame 104. It has had a rough life, and to be honest, I don't think Sunflames were made tough. I do however appreciate their charm, and will do what I can to give this one a new lease on life. If a pressurised dunk test reveals no stress cracks (for which these founts are notorious), I need advice on what to about the hideous paint job on the fount. 1 Try and remove the paint without further damaging the the remaining chrome underneath and keep it original. Sunflames are also notorious for shedding their chrome. 2 Remove the paint and polish to brass 3 Remove the paint and re spray burgandy, as they were manufactured in chrome or burgandy 4 Keep it as is At this stage I prefer options 1 or 3
@JohanOptimus On inspection, is there any evidence that the plating is starting to flake off and to what extent? In my humble opinion, the degree of the plating deterioration would determine the next actions. From the picture, I would be inclined to fettle the working bits then prime and repaint the fount in a colour applicable to this model. Then, light her up for the money shot. Cheers Pete
