I guess the questions are: which models would you expect to see a 'deep scolloped glass' globe fitted too?, how rare are they? and what would you expect to pay? I've got a short handled pork pie lamp with standard glass and was just wondering if it should have the deep version? And was this version of the glass still called a 171? Martin
I reckon the deep dish 171 globes were on the Pork Pie X246s and the X246 second model, also know as the Guardsman. I think the shallower dish 171 globes were on the X246As and the X246Bs. Just my impression and I’m sure there are exceptions to the above. Others here could be more accurate. Cheers Pete
Hi Martin, the deep dish globes seem to be only marginally less available than the other types and command a slightly higher price on eBay or gumtree (around £15-18). But you may be lucky and find one by chance in a charity shop or antiques centre for a £5. worth browsing around if you have the time. I think your pork pie will look more authentic with one, so go for it!

If you go for originality with a porker, you will have to look for this: When used, the blue will have faded, but the 'Hendon' places it at the beginning of production to my knowledge. Afterwards it became the '171' (as the part number) still with the 'Durosil' moniker, then '171' by Pyrex. I believe G.T.C. Ltd only made the shorter versions albeit still with the oval logo, that further through the years became a non-descript "made in the EEC" in a rectangle. One of the nicest logo's however is the Bullfinch, that in shape is identical to the deep models and could be found perhaps for a lower price. However, Bullfinch 1616 lamps (Handlight) are fueled by propane or butane gas cylinders, and have as yet little bearing with this site.
I have found some better readable logo's: And a very rare german (deep) glass: This Rasotherm glass was found with a Rijkswaterstaat 246X model, that by itself is very seldom encountered.
