How long has it been like this, now - three years? At least they've removed the bit about having trouble with their tank suppliers but expecting to have a new source in the forseeable future. Surely this is the end of the line...
Just been to their site, ordered some service packs. Given the time, are they really trying to source tank manufacturers or is it a wish list?
I do not watch this too closely but I think there was a certain period of time when they were able to supply tanks and lamps again. But I always had the impression they meet twice a week for tea and whist and if there was an order they completed this in between two cups of tea. Erik
Neil could go there and ask directly. He'd just have to cross that big car park around London called the M25. Erik
The web site would not inspire anyone to buy a lamp if they were available. A 5 year old child could do a better job.
I contacted them for a few pip type NRV seals for my X246B’s and they came through in a couple of days. I have asked them the question about the lettets in the date codes on behalf of my Scout Group..... no response, not even an email acknowledgment to my 3 emails
Some years ago, I called them twice to ask about what historic spare parts they had in stock (they did at one time advertise that they had a stock of these) and whether they realised 2014 was the 50th anniversary of the X246B. It very quickly became blatantly obvious they had absolutely no idea of what they had produced before more than about a week previously. It was like asking one of the 'mascarenes' on a Boots cosmetic counter to tell you about the race into space - absolutely not a ******g clue...
I'm sure when i looked on their site around six months ago they had lanterns for sale, if i remember correctly they were around £150 for the brass fount late model B version.
I’ve had a reply from Tilley about the letters in their date codes..... X, XA, XB, mainly because my latest X246B is marked 688BR ...... Their reply: “The numbers are the month and year of manufacture i.e. 171 would be Jan 1971. X and XA are models up to about 1962 X246b is the current model which was made from the early 60s onwards BR is a model which was sold to British Rail” Me thinks this is not the whole story........ and the reference to the X246B being “current model” implies there are more to come???
Well, IMHO, that's your inference rather than any implication from Tilley... As for a new model from Tilley, I think you've got more chance of seeing Stephen Hawking performing 'Great Balls of Fire'...
I saw their new one for sale last year....... and after seeing the price decided to rehome a couple of older lamps
