I have recently got what looks like a Tilley EX 100 (see photos). The only identifier is the remnant scrap of a decal on the bottom of the tank. It is has black writing on a gold strip, with the letters "...ing..." on one line and "...ou(r)..." on the next. Maybe "something", "Melbourne"? It is in good nick and is restorable. so...

Where do I get an old 'onion globe' or should I get a new onion globe from Tilley Co? and...

Can anyone give me advice on making the wire globe holder?

    Cheers

    Tony

If it's got Melbourne on it, I think it's far more likely to be a Kayen AP2, which is a copy of the Tilley EX100 made by either W. Kopsen or T.S. Nettlefold (hence Kayen) at the end of WWII when Australia was operating an import ban.

BTW, when you post images, you need to click on either 'Full-size' or 'Thumbnail' in the File Manager - see the red text there. Doing that will make the images appear in your post and save us having to click on the links at the bottom of your post. Hope that helps...

Edit - I've just checked the Lamp Gallery and it seems that Kopsen were based in Sydney and it was Nettlefold who were based in Melbourne. So there you are...

Looks like a Kayen to me as well. Get a new globe but buy it from either the Bay or go to www.johnmoncrieff.co.uk/ Moncrieff make an onion globe and are quite a bit cheaper than Tilley. The web site seems to be down this morning so I can't check the price but they make good glass.

The globe holder is just twisted wire. Looks like this. ::Neil::

Hello Tony, TW Sands in Carlton Victoria in Aus., stock a wide range of lamps and parts and if I recall correctly they stock a globe for that lamp.

The link below is for their website, Jeff.

I purchased replacement globes (They are not Tilley 182 globes by the way) for my Kayen collection directly from Basecamp in UK. they are very reasonable even with the postage charge. If you need any help with restoring your Nettlefold Kayen (or sourcing parts) send me a PT and I will assist

    Thanks for the help!

If anyone has a photo of a green Kayen decal that would be useful... All the bits above the tank are standard (old) Tilley parts by the looks of them.

I see that you can buy old-style teardrop globes online so I might get one of those.

    Cheers

    Tony

Here's a Nettlefold transfer from an old ebay auction. Don't know who the owner is so can't ask for permission.

That clearly shows that the tank of my lamp is a Karen made by Nettlefold in Melbourne.

    Thanks
