My question is to those of you who have been lucky enough to handle a proper Tilley i.e. Pre 246B etc. Straight from the Box as it were. What is the paint finish? Is it Lacquered or Matt.I am not worried about the shade, colour. It has had plenty of discussion in the past, unless there is "new information" [-o< .

Ah, but could it not be a Matt Lacquer over the top of the Gold to seal it?.. :-k

Answer: It could.... but it wasn't. As far as I can tell from all the "pork pie" 246's I've handled (see some in the Gallery), the gold paint and black highlight was not over-coated in lacquer - and it was matt.

    Cheers

    Tony

 What? - Tilley using metal-flake paint in the late 1940s? Somehow, I think not... ;)

No idea - just use Plastikote 'Brass' No.139(?) which is as near as you're likely to get today...
