    G'day all,

I've not seen one of these insect guards before. Is any one able to tell me if they are original Tilley or an after market job?

They are quite stylish. I suppose being after market they are a no no though.

Definitely not a no no!... But it's most certainly "after-market". I've not seen one either but it looks very functional. I would keep it on - it's fantastic.

The thing about insect screens and Tilleys is they (the screens) were made for export to the "colonies" (the far flung pink bits on the old wall maps, and places near to) and were not a big feature of lamps sold in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and places nearby.

    Cheers

    Tony

    Hey Tony,

I think it's looks pretty damn good too. I don't own it, it's a lamp I saw for sale from funny enough, the UK.

I'd like to know where they are made.

Thanks Graham, I'll check it out.

I find the Koreans' a bit pricey plus they don't miss you with postage either.

Well, I could be wrong but there's a Northern Ireland chappie who has, to put it charitably, a vivid imagination... ;)

Aftermarket for sure and probably as old as last week. Looks good on the lamp and I would certainly keep it on. The Tilley original is a simple multi hole perforated steel. ::Neil::

Definetly not a No No. Some of the nicest items of paraffinalia are third-party or home made.

Perhaps that's exactly what it is. It may be that a Korean ebayer (as previously suggested) or previous owner adapted it to suit the purpose it now fills.

Whatever it started life as, it looks good being what it is now.

    Hi,
This my first reply on CPL, I make this insect guard, and also has another two types, we are the Tilley fans in Taiwan, still trying to figure out how to post image here. Happy and so surprised to find the photo here... :)

    Yes, they look very good.
But shouldn't there be a lower insect guard too if it should do any real good?

    Wow, I like them all.

I suppose there is a CPL discount? I'm thinking a $1.99 each including postage? ;)

Matty, that's a bit mean isn't it? I've dealt with this chap for a while now, he actually sent me one of his insect guards as a gift but I sent it back as it wasn't like the Tilley original. His work is first class though and he is keen to learn as much as he can about Tilley lamps and lanterns in general. Not that he'll learn much from me but I encouraged him to look at CPL.

    Jean,

I thought every one on CPL knew two things about me at least, 1) I'm the perennial whipping boy and 2) I'm a cheapskate.

Of course the price I suggested was mean, it was ludicrous, that's why I put a wink on the end. I'd have put a devil but can't see one in the list of smilies.

In other words, it was a joke.

Nice work. I have to ask, are those vitreosil globes the real deal?

    Hello Jansen,

Welcome to the forum, the bug screens look rather nice on the lamps after being run.

I am wondering if you also produce the lamp handle on the first lamp, using the filler cap as an additional mount was very smart.

    Hello Jansen,

I'm pleased you can take a joke and see the funny side of life.

Jansen, can you give us a run down on the screens and handles and perhaps other bits and pieces you make?

Things like prices and postage and where one can order.

    Hi Matty,
Life is easy ... it's OK for the joke ;) ,
but the difficulty is some times I could not distinguish it's the joke or not, cause the language barrier ... Ha!Ha!...^^

About the product I have, I can list the things later when I off duty.

Which include the parts I made, and another friend made for the stove and lamp.

I am not sure to post here is OK, or is there somewhere I can post?

Everyone can call me Jansen, CY or lee all are OK... :content:
