Tilley lamp

    Hi just tried to get an old tilley working I have changed seals and got good pressure I have put on a new mantle and it is burning black in parts about 60% is white and bright but remainder is dark , looks a bit like soot
    Any ideas ?

    It sounds like the vapouriser has an enlarged jet, or the burner is not working properly. If you have another vapouriser, try it. Also, check the air inlets for the burner to make sure they aren't blocked with spider web or wasp nests.

    You should check that all the burner parts are fitted properly and not loose.

    Welcome to the group, there is a lot of friendly knowledge here.
    Hey I had something like this, as Tony said, the vapouriser sounds like it's worn, e.g. the hole is too big.
    I had some not so good an experience with Tilley vapourisers, bought new from Tilley, so I tried a Korean, kkn4602 on eBay, version with excellent results. I have now used 6 of these Korean vapourisers.
