I'm giving an old Tilley, circa 1950's I think, a birthday with new seals, a leather cup and have also replaced the hood that was full of holes.

all went well but what I'm struggling with is removing the bakelite knob from the control cock as it is super tight in order to replace the seal within the gland

I don't want to break things with undue force so any advice from the experts would be much appreciated

The bakelite knob unscrews anti-clockwise, but sometimes it is stuck tight.

Use a small set of pliers to grip the shaft that the knob is screwed onto, then unscrew the knob. Sometimes you may have to wrap leather around the knob and grip carefully with pliers.

    Cheers

thanks Tony as that did the trick. :) I had no idea that the knob was a screw on.

the lamp is now all re-sealed ready for a fire up and test tonight
