    I think they sold these also as a kit to covert your existing lamp.

    Stove CS56 was sold as a complete unit priced at 85/- in 1957 but they also sold a conversion unit type No 1657 for 44/3. In the price lists I have it was still available as a spare part to fit X246 lamps up to 1961 but I can't find it listed later. ::Neil::

    Did the conversion kits still not have the truncated cone windshield to protect the three vapouriser heaters? - I can't see the vapouriser staying hot enough without it especially outside in a breeze. It appears to be missing from the unit above so given that, combined with the use of a pork-pie tank, my suspicion would be it's a 'marriage' rather than anything Tilley produced.

    I'm happy to be corrected...
