Have just recieved a "Pork pie" table lamt to refurbish, it appears to be painted gold but the top is covered in a black residue which appears to be burnt on and half way up the column. The removal of it is taking the paint with it down to the brass so it will need either repainting or leaving as bare metal. My question is what colours did these lamps come in as original or is it back to gold. Just fancied Old English White if it was in keeping with the age of the lamp. Any views would be appreciated.Clive.
Hello Clive, To keep the lamp original, DON'T strip the paint. Unlike the porkpie lanterns, both the short and long table lamps were two tone, i.e. mostly gold but with a band of black round the base of the tank and at the top which extends up the stem. Henry.
Hi, Have a look in the reference gallery, it should help! http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/7142 http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/4406 HTH
Thank,s for replies and links to photo's, unfortunatly the paint quality is rough and the black residue covers all the top and some of the side. There is no black band round the base but the rolled edge has the same residue on it but has flaked off in places. Would like to put it back as near as possible to original paintwork so will have to do more research . Thanks, Clive
