I recently struck lucky with a short handled X246 Pork Pie. Interestingly the glass is in a blue script, and it is upside down too! This is a deep bowl, so I'm thinking it's a contemporary one if not its original. Just wondered if anyone could shed light on that please ? Also noted on this, that the pump orifice on the font has a protruding radius into which the pump seal fits. I've had trouble with seals blowing out on later models where there is no such ring, and wonder why on earth Tilley chose to abandon this sensible design !
@ROGER BAKER That’s a nice early Tilley 171 globe and suitably contemporary with your “Pork Pie” X246. You get the added bonus of blue and upside-down printing. Cheers Tony
Thanks fellas. Just wonder if anyone can throw any light on the point in time the pump orifice was changed please ? I know the shortie is an early evolutionary specimen, but wonder if this design crossed over into the longer handled ones. I've a couple of long handle pork pies with the later design without the retaining ring, including a Table model.

I bet I'm not the only person with seals that have blown out on the seemingly later design, in what is actually quite a funny sounding way, but they end up distorted and useless afterwards. My knowledge of some of the more obscure lamps is not that great, but I am not familiar with that pump orifice on any other product. Obviously later on in evolution, the switch to the big chunky dismantleable pump with the retaining ring was considered necessary..... They just look plain wrong on one of these though !
