I have my tank all prepared ready to start the painting process - even obtained the correct paint (thanks Tony for the code) and primer. Trouble is, I really enjoy the brass. Question is, do I keep it authentic (everything else has been fettled with genuine parts) and paint it or do I potentially devalue it by leaving it brass? I don't intend selling any of my lanterns so a quandary it certainly is! Below is the 'before and after' of the long-handled 246 and at the bottom, the yet-to-be-fettled short handled 246. As usual opinions of my betters encouraged and valued!!
G,,day Ian . I like the look of aged brass , just a nice patina . not constantly polished , as this causes damage to the brass . if you are going to keep and resale value doesn't worry you . do it however you like it looking . it is your lantern and you need to be the one that is happy with it . cheers, kerry
The top section will go dark again as soon as you run it... Personally if it was originally painted then I usually paint it or at least the tank... I usually leave pumps, filler caps and frames as shiny brass. As said above though it's your lamp your choice...
Gniess: I have decided that (as you say) if it came painted in the first place from the factory then it needs to be painted again. All the prep is done so not a difficult job. Starting on the short handled Pork Pie shortly. I will post photos when both are finished (and painted).
