This lamp has come into my possession. Having looked through the gallery, the closest I can find is an Anchor, but there are no markings on this one to confirm. It arrived with a thick layer of dust, but has cleared up nicely. Initial checks shows that it pumps fine and holds its pressure. Just need to check the jet and fit a mantle....... The only defect found can be seen in the photo......... it has a slight lean, but if it runs well I will call it character
I could not leave a lantern looking like the "Leaning Tower of Pisa'. I would have to strip it and have a go at straightening it. I think it would straighten easily.
Or even Bentaladdin ? Sorry , it is in good nick and definitely worth saving from the edison upcycle brigade !
I dunno, David, it has that Italian look to my eyes... But it should be easy to straighten by easing the frame base plate screw and just re-aligning the frame on the fount.
Looks like a rare angle lantern. These where used in the earlier days to light around the corner. I guess when you tun it around the angle disappears and the lantern looks straight. That is the "looks great, selling" point.
It could be argued that the title is a question Anyway a new mantle has been tracked down so fingers crossed there will be light soon
Kab, I have one of these if you want it for the price of postage. Anchor made in china. No glass and rust mainly at the hot end. No lean. Think there might be some spare parts as well. Let me know if you want it.
Time to play at the weekend. Head, cage and burner removed, quick clean, rebuilt - straighter than before, new mantle fitted to a borrowed ceramic burner. Fueled, mantle burnt in, pumped and .......... Followed by........ Nice bright burn.
