Anyone ever seen a red stamped/etched tilley 171 glass? I personally have never seen a red one before.
That is an older and longer 171 glass and they are not so common now and I do not recall if I have seen a red stamp before.
That’s a very good old Tilley 171. Phoenix made glass for different lantern brands including Aladdin (Australia). Edit: Phoenix made glasses for Buflam, Bialaddin, Handi and Petromax… maybe more. @BigStevie said in another thread: Phoenix glass was made by the British HeatResisting Glass Company based at Bilston in the Uk. Most known for their domestic items of heat resistant glassware similar to Pyrex. I believe they started in the 1930s and finished production in the 1970s. See discussion here: NOS / NIB Aladdin Glass Chimney + other designs Cheers Tony
I think I have two red stamped Phoenix Tilley glasses. A 182 globe on a pl53 and a deep dish 171 on a pork pie lantern. I have always assumed Phoenix to have supplied Tilley for a short while in the 1940's based on these two and nothing else. As I type this I am pretty sure the veritas branded glass in my 350 is also Phoenix but I would have to check that.
