hi, I have recently acquired a veritas 350 in good overall condition, however the wire that pricks the fuel nipple to clean it is broken off,it is actually a screw on attachment on top of the cleaning rod,but where to get one??my question is has anybody come across this problem and found a satisfactory answer,i am wondering if they share any parts in common with lanterns of that era so I could broaden my search, thanks tony.
Welcome aboard Tony! That is a common problem and I do not know of anyone who has Veritas 350 prickers, Jeff.
thanks jeff the original part number was v2/20 I believe,I will keep trying, may have to resort to a parts lantern for a s/h one, tony
Hello Toeknee, here n Australia i have sourced pricker needles for Veritas from T.W. SANDS in Melbourne, they have been in business with kerosene lighting for over one hundred years, worth a try as i know of none compatible from other lamps, cheers Frank
Hi Tony, If you have a small enough drill and a steady hand you might be able to drill out the broken piece of wire from the existing screw on attachment and then crimp a new piece of wire in its place. Guitar strings and acupuncture needles can be used as a source of replacement wire. James.
Thanks for all the advice,i have been contacted by a fellow collector who had a spare so i will be able to get this one up and running,i may even try to post some pics, tony.
Hi Tony, glad you're sorted but for others who may have the same problem there's also another way. I used an Optimus 350 needle - the threads fit the rod and the wire clears the jet BUT the brass part is too big so I just filed off the three lobes until the brass was round. Works a treat. Henry.
