Hi - I just spotted some strange lamps in the 1954 movie "In The Valley of the Kings" - Are they propane lamps, carbide lamps or else, they don´t look like pressurelamps to me.

It's difficult to be sure, but those lanterns appear to have pumps and pricker control knobs and there are 2 styles of tank, Jeff.

Judging by the miraculous way they suddenly ignited as they went through the door, I would suspect they were magic lamps!

What an interesting piece of film.

I believe these are in fact all the same model lamp, or at least they used to be. The tanks and vents look to be covers designed to disguise the actual lamp.

They look like a Petromax/Optimus variety.

The use of lighting when moving from one room to the other is fun to watch and correct me if I'm wrong but is that white noise in the background a pretty good facsimile of a lamp running or what.
