The Guild has pretty well established that this is a Hugo Shneider alcohol burner with a #3 thread. What I'm wondering is if anyone has seen it before, or has paper about it. I've had no luck learning more about it.
Similar to a Tito landi, should have the big cotton wick the same as a Tito. Runs on meths, and the little lever and the brass part that extends down into the fount is a little pump to bring fuel up from the tank into a preheat dish which is lit through the hole revealed when you move the red knob side to side. That knob also turns the jet altering the flow of fuel vapour. With that pump arrangement, it is the slightly more expensive version than the sort I've got which you manually pour in the meths. But I'm not a wickie.
I have two Tito Landi lamps, so I'm fettling this burner with the same combination of wick and copper screen up top. I'm just curious about the odd labeling of O"SOL and what it was a part of (fount, globe, shade) I guess I'm just a lamp junkie
I finally found a fount with a #3 collar on it! I fitted the burner with a wick this evening and filled the fount with spirits. The pump worked well the first time, and now I'm waiting for the wick to soak. I added the copper screen around the top to conduct heat to the wick while letting the vapors vent. The knob on the control rod was split and broke so I'll have to fettle a replacement that won't burn my fingers.
Sigh. Can anyone out there show me a photo of this burner in operation of a lamp? The truth be told, I'm going to sell it, but I want to make sure that it's in good fettle first.
Vim, Can you provide a link to the HS 1 and HS 2 items that you referred to? This is an uncommon item here in North America.
