As it will be a world record light-up we should have a table which shows the time of the event for each time-zone: http://timeanddate.com/s/2eb8 Some of you will have to light your Tilley at 5:00 in the morning
Ah, no - the world record attempt will have to be at Newark, otherwise we can't be absolutely sure how many lamps were lit. That's what we did with the 111 light-ups. Anyone else, wherever in the world, can just light up an X246B on the day and post a pic. We even had 111s lit up in Antarctica but I'll dare bet there are no X246Bs there - unless anyone knows different! We could do 50 gold lanterns arranged in the shape of '50' - corny or what!
There were a few ex Australian National Antarctic Research and parts on that internet auction site a couple years ago (emergency lights in case of generator failure) apparently it`s easier to decant Kero than gas at -30C. I will try to join in the light up with the one 246B I own, but draw the line at 2 am 4 August to match 17.00 Brit summer time for the Cloud Tramp Memorial Mass Launch (a vintage small rubber powered model plane) Its winter and cold here.
Management has decreed that we will be coming next year to the Newark gathering, loved this year. Have 3x246B's now but more will surely be found in boot sales over the next 9 months 18 days. 7011 hours to go to lighting up (10pm I guess), much better than 7290. Good job we aren’t going to celebrate 1001 carpet shampoo!
Been thinking about 246 x 246 Tilley Lamps, had a decco at this years pics, probably going to be a very tough challenge.
That was never the intention - at least not mine, anyway. I just suggested seeing how many we could get lit at the same time and then vaguely wondered if 50 gold ones set up in the shape of '50' was a possibility... ...and it's a 21:00 start.
It was my suggestion that we may have a go at 246 x 246's. May not be achievable, but who cares. It's the being there and the fun that makes our Newark meet so good, so if you have a 246 and can get there please do It will be a great weekend whatever . Steve.
Ah, I see what you mean now. AFAIA, we didn't ever go for 111 Optimus 111s. We started out at Highside Farm one time seeing how many we happened to have between us that weekend and could light at once. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XongUksp4gY&mode=related&search= Somebody (probably me) suggested this was a world record. It just grew from there... Ian and I are in the video. Paul Hindley was there too. I think I remember Ross and Trevor also being there that weekend...
I expect I'll have picked up a few more by then, especially now we have this challenge ahead... even if we don't get close to 246 it's still going to be an impressive sight One thing I'm going to be desperately short of is priming torches. I only have two and normally that doesn't matter but on this occasion we are going to have a lot of lamps to light... So even if some people don't have a 246B I expect they could still help out with the loan of a torch or two.
Here's another candidate for the 246 x 246B attempt. Cost me £3.00 at a car boot, but needed a glass. Had one of them (maybe about six!) so got it cleaned and running and it is as sweet as anything . It is going to Newark next year, if only as a "user" or making up numbers. Don't tell her though Seen here with one of my repro reflectors fitted, and of course the compulsary glass of Sloe Gin . Steve.
Good work, as you know I picked up another one this weekend too coincidentally for the same price... Small steps toward the 246
Picked up another this weekend, my first read one... I was beginning to give up hope because they mostly seemed to be gold around here. Anyway I'm now up to five and by my reckoning Steve is up to six... Maybe it's time this topic had it's own appropriately named thread.
