Found this beauty on Sunday at the local car boot sale for £18,tank looks okay top is a bit rough, will do a light restoration (seals ,washers etc). I can find the orange enamel top on eBay but I'm having difficulty finding the other part of the top (like half a donut )will put an ad in the wanted section and hopefully will get it going.Lee
Very good lantern just a few things to finish it off . Just needs a good clean up . Will run in that condition most likely a washer kit is wanted. Bob .
yes Bob the pump leather was missing and so was the generator needle, I,ll go through it and put some photo,s up when done. Lee
Keep your eyes peeled on Ebay, i noticed one of those tops on the wrong lamp the other week and it went for handy money too, i'd probably repaint your lamp as it looks like it's been drowned in the caustic bath far too long...
Welcome aboard! I have used a small brass bowl or a brass ashtray with a hole drilled in the middle of it and fitted it upside down to complete those hoods.
Yes, that part is the air intake draught excluder - that's what it does anyway. It's probably still wherever it was taken off, along with the enamelled top - bummer! As Paul suggests, you may need to buy a complete top. Having said that, Jeff's idea is ingenious if you can find something near enough the correct size and in brass...
It will work okay, but it will be affected by draughts and the wind, perhaps you could fit Tilley PL., or AL., air buttons to it. PL53 Late 30s AL620.
Thanks Jeff, those buttons are available on eBay so I might go down that road if can't get the excluder. Lee
